In my creative writing class, one of the essays this week is basically a manifesto about how women should be able to “**** like a guy”—that is, no strings attached, non-emotional, meaningless casual sex.

We’re supposed to critique the writing and structure, etc of the essay—not the underlying premise—but I know that I’m reading this essay in a very different way than my classmates. The most touching part of the essay for me was the author’s obvious pain and denial of how she’s been hurt. She seems to treat herself like she’s worthless

In the critiquing, I don’t want to preach, but I DO want the author to question why she’s blindly following the culture of death (I won’t phrase it like that).

Is there a tactful way to ask the author to engage with the meaning of sex and why she thinks it should be meaningless? If you’ve got ideas, let me know.
